Mexico City, Mexico, September 22, 2022 – Manchester City’s world charity initiative, Cityzens Giving, and Official Water Technology Partner, Xylem, are delighted to announce the growth of Xylem Water Heroes Academy, a world initiative in ten cities utilizing the power of soccer to sort out native water challenges.
Since its launch in 2021, Xylem Water Heroes Academy has engaged over 75 young leaders and delivered important water schooling to more than 6,000 young folks in 5 cities: São Paulo, Mumbai, Cape Town, New York City and Shanghai. The expanded community, which now also contains youth-led initiatives in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Cape Coast, Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne, aims to positively influence 20,000 extra young individuals over the following 4 years.
Graphical user interface<br/>Description routinely generated with low confidence” winautomationvisibilitylandmark=”true”><br/>To mark the launch, Pablo Zabaleta and the Premier League Trophy visited the El Coyolito neighbourhood in Mexico City to meet Cityzens Giving Young Leaders who’re using the power of football to resolve local water points.<br/>Despite heavy flooding and rainfall, Mexico City is going through a water scarcity. More than 20 million residents don’t have enough water to drink for nearly half the yearand one in five individuals have access to only some hours of working water from their taps a week.<br/>This project will see Young Leaders from love.fútbol use specifically adapted football games to educate younger folks in the neighborhood on accountable water consumption, as nicely as the importance of protected water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).<br/>Zabaleta took half in a youth-led football and water competition and engaged in a Q&A session with young participants, before studying a traditional Mexican dance.<br/>Reflecting on his go to, Zabaleta mentioned: “Meeting the Young Leaders in Mexico City was an incredible experience. As part of the activity within the country, Young Leaders, Xylem staff and followers from Manchester City’s Official Supporters Club in Mexico City also joined forces to repaint the El Coyolito pitch and create a water-themed mural.
In addition, City within the Community coaches delivered training to forty Young Leaders in Mexico City, sharing experience and knowledge in management, group football and WASH. This was followed by a three-day digital Summit, connecting Young Leaders and Xylem consultants from all ten cities to share concepts on tackling water challenges via football.
“Climate change continues to threaten water availability in communities throughout the globe,” stated Austin Alexander, Vice President, Sustainability and Social Impact at Xylem. “Xylem Water Heroes Academy harnesses the power of soccer and young leaders to deal with these water challenges and make our communities extra resilient.”
Valeria, a Young Leader with love.fútbol mentioned: “We need all the kids here to be aware that accountable water consumption is essential, they usually should deal with it.
