Kenyan agency plans huge chilly chain facility in East Africa

digital pressure gauge and logistics service provider Cold Solutions, says it’s going to invest USD 70 million to assemble the largest cold chain facility in East Africa to address challenges that face transportation of perishable items.
ไดอะแฟรม ซีล ’s 15,000 sqm flagship facility in Tatu City Special Economic Zone in Nairobi will be the largest, most superior and efficient within the area. The cold chain facility is flexibly designed to cater for numerous temperature ranges from +26 to -40 C and a quantity of product ranges, from contemporary fruit and greens, to pharmaceuticals and vaccines, meats and poultry, and frozen meals.
Cold Solutions Kenya is a portfolio firm of ARCH Cold Chain Solutions East Africa Fund, a private equity fund suggested by ARCH Emerging Markets Partners Limited (ARCH).
“Cold Solutions’ one-stop-shops are designed to allow businesses to keep track of products in real-time and facilitate transportation throughout East Africa via temperature-controlled trucks, either throughout the inner metropolis or to long-haul destinations,” said Jared Irving, Managing Director, ARCH.

The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that over 40% of food in Sub-Saharan Africa perishes before it reaches a consumer. This can be as high as 60% for recent produce in Sub-Saharan Africa.
