Following its announcements of 5 May 2021 updating the New Industrial Strategy proposed in 2020, the European Commission has further indicated that it’s going to rely quite closely on trade to deliver on the most important challenges faced by our economies and societies in Europe. This is particularly the case in relation to sustainability, digital transformation, and international competitiveness, in addition to the want to overcome the crisis provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The EU Recovery and Resilience Plan launched in Spring 2021 is essentially constructing on the capability of European trade to design and produce the constructing blocks of the twin green and digital transition. At the identical time, the EU is shaping a dense regulatory framework that doesn’t always help the freedom and flexibility wanted for firms to grow and compete globally.
The European know-how industries, and particularly our pumps, compressors, faucets and valves sectors, have for a very lengthy time thought-about the enhancement of their global competitiveness inside the challenges of societal and environmental challenges, notably by contributing to the preparation of energy efficiency and ecolabel rules. In parallel, digitalisation has offered increased opportunities and introduced new challenges, together with debates on the appropriate regulatory degree (sharing of business information, synthetic intelligence, cybersecurity, etc).
These developments, amidst ever extra fierce international competition, require that public authorities and trade within the EU work increasingly more carefully to design and deploy strategies that reinforce our competitiveness and our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This would be the subject of the preliminary debate kicking off our Joint EU Policy Conference, which will bring together key policy makers from the three EU coverage institutions in cost of the Industrial Strategy and three Executives representing and illustrating the achievements enjoyed, and challenges still confronted, by these three key sectors of trade.
Specific Technical and Policy Issues
As the regulatory landscape throughout Europe, and certainly the whole world, turns into ever more advanced, the burden on trade solely will increase. It due to this fact falls to sector particular trade organisations, such as Europump, CEIR and Pneurop, to establish and advise on these technical and policy issues most relevant to their respective sectors. In our particular area, that relates, of course, to the manufacture, distribution and use of pumps and all pump related tools – a huge and necessary subset of industry, given the width and breadth of pump functions.
Against this backdrop, one of the primary concerns when determining the core themes for the joint convention was to take care of a direct reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Within this focus, the three associations intend to focus on how, along with the importance for corporations to handle technical aspects impacting their daily business operations, they consider the positive function of trade in addressing societal challenges. Indeed, all the periods will have a technical theme matching essentially the most applicable UN SDG, and with illustration from the European Commission together with technical experts from business and/or analysis institutes, they’ll every be reflective of the current legislative terrain, as it relates to pumps and pumping techniques within the following key areas:
Circular Economy & Eco-design (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 12: Responsible Consumption and Production)
Industry’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)
The restriction of use of materials and substances of concern (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 6: Clean Water and Sanitation)
The regulatory and legislative landscape throughout Europe is becoming increasingly complicated, and business, in all its guises, needs to be conscious and prepared for what’s coming. By partaking with these trade organisations that symbolize your greatest interests, you’ll be able to maintain abreast of all the compliance developments as they have an result on your small business and the areas in which you use.
